What is a Fixathon?

A Fixathon is just like a hackathon, but we build solutions to challenges that desperately need fixing. In 24 hours, we’ll come together across the globe, harnessing the power of AI to shape a better future. In other words, an event where people come together, form teams, and spend a limited time brainstorming, designing, and building ideas into prototypes. With the help of open data sources and access to tools like Lovable, you can make a dent in the future by proposing how it could be solved.

When and where?

The Fixathon will take place in five different locations, with dates varying by city — check your local event page for exact times. The largest Fixathon will be held in Stockholm, running for 24 hours between December 5th and 6th at Norrsken House. Here, more than 200 change makers will come together to build prototypes tackling some of the world’s biggest challenges. The Stockholm event kicks off at 4:00 PM on Friday and runs continuously until 6:00 PM on Saturday. Between 6:00 and 8:00 PM, participants will present their projects and wind down together.

I have never joined a hackathon before. Can I come?

That makes the experience even more exciting! Everyone with a passion for building a better future is welcome – whether you're a designer, storyteller, coder, problem-solver, or just curious to explore ideas in a hands-on way. More information about skills that are valuable in a team in the next question.

Do I need to be a developer to join?

Not everyone needs to be a developer, but someone in the group needs to know how to code. If you apply yourself, we will match you in a group with skills that complement you. Much can also be built in Lovable, not requiring any technical skills to build a full working prototype.

What are good skills to have in a team?

Each team consists of 3 people, and it’s ideal to have one or two members who are comfortable with coding or have experience using tools like Lovable. Since the final submission is a video, at least one person should be able to handle basic video editing software. Aside from that, we truly value diverse teams — more on that in the next point.

What makes a great team?

Research shows that diverse perspectives are key to unlocking creativity. We're hoping to see teams with a mix of ages, cultural backgrounds, interests, skill sets, and gender identities. The more variety, the better! If you want to boost your chances of being selected — make sure not to overlook this angle.

What if I don't have a team?

No problem at all! You can sign up as an individual! You’ll be matched with a team based on the theme you choose.

How can you/we prepare?

Once accepted, we encourage every team to connect ahead of the hackathon. Having a preliminary discussion about the type of idea you'd like to develop over the 24-hour period can make a big difference. The specific challenges will be revealed at the same time as we announce the selected participants.

Can i submit a challenge to the fixathon?

The overarching challenges have been defined together with our partners, but within each category there’s room for your own ideas. You can choose to join a more specific challenge — or bring your own idea, as long as it fits within the overall theme.

We're already working on something. Can we still take part?

Yes, but the jury will only look at the progress done during the fixathon, and not based on what you had before. But ideally we want to see a 0 to 1 progress.

How do i apply?

Start your application by selecting the city you want to join. Then simply fill in your details in the Confetti form.

Can I join remotely?

No. You can only join the Fixathon from our hubs.

Do I need to be there the whole fixathon?

Yes. The interest in joining the Fixathon has been huge. If you’re not able to participate for the entire day, please give up your spot so someone else can join. That said, we strongly encourage you to connect and chat with other participants during the Fixathon, so don’t forget to do some mingling too!

What should I bring to the fixathon?

Bring your laptop, chargers, and anything you usually need to work productively. We’ll provide food, snacks, internet, and plenty of energy!

Do we have to use specific technologies or platforms?

No, you’re free to choose whatever tools and tech fit your solution best.

What should every team submit?

At the end of the 24 hours, each team submits the names of its members along with a short video presentation of their solution. Teams are also welcome to include a slide deck, though it’s optional.

Who owns the ideas and code we create during the fixathon?

Your team does! We don’t claim any ownership of your solution — it’s entirely yours to keep developing after the event. The Fixathon is just the beginning! Keep building on your idea and share it with the world.
